About the Artist

I am Kasandra Santos, an artist, veterinary professional, and mother whose work explores the profound mystery of life before birth.
Growing up surrounded by animals, I developed a deep respect for the ways different species embody emotion and meaning. My artistic journey began with custom pet portraits, preserving the stories and bonds people share with the animals they love. Over time, however, my work evolved into something more contemplative and universal.
Today, my paintings are focusing on the earliest moments of life.
Through my collection Genesis, I depict unborn animals suspended in the quiet space before birth. Each species is chosen intentionally, carrying its own symbolism and emotional weight: courage, loyalty, resilience, wisdom, hope. Together, these works invite viewers to reflect on beginnings, not only biological beginnings, but emotional and spiritual ones as well.
My background in veterinary medicine gives me an appreciation for anatomy and the beauty of living creatures, while my experiences as a mother have deepened my understanding of vulnerability, love, and the miracle of creation. These influences shape every piece I create.
I work primarily in acrylic and mixed media, creating large-scale paintings with dramatic contrast, minimalist compositions, and intimate detail. My goal is to create artwork that inspires awe and reminds us that before every story, before every triumph or heartbreak, there is a moment of quiet possibility.
That moment is where my work begins.
